Implicit Derivative
Implicit Derivative Assume that the equation f (x, y) = 0 represents y as an implicit function of x. If y is a differentiable function of x, then the equation f (x, y) = 0 is differentiated with respect to x and the value of dy / dx is obtained by solving this equation. Examples of implicit derivatives: - Question 1: - If x ^3 + 3 x ^2 y 2 y ^3 = 5, find dy / dx. Solution: - x ^3 + 3 x ^2 y 2 y ^3 = 5 (1) Differentiating both sides of (1) with respect to x. Or, d / dx (x ^3) +3 d /dx (x^2 y) -2 d/dx (y^3) = d/dx (5) Or, 3x^2 +3 {x^2 dy/dx + y d/dx(x^2)} 2 *3y^2 dy/dx =0 Or, 3 x^2+3 (x^2 dy/dx + y * 2x) 6 y^2 dy/dx = 0 Or, 3 x^2+3 x^2 dy/dx +6 x y- 6 y^2 dy/dx=0 Or, -3 dy/dx (2 y^2-x^2) + 3 x (x + 2 y)= 0 Or, -3 dy/dx (2 y^2-x^2) = -3 x (x + 2 y) Or, dy/dx = 3 x (x + 2 y)/ 3 (2 y^2-x^2) Therefore, dy/dx = x (x + 2 y)/ (2 y^2-x^2) Question 2: - If x + y = 1, find dy/dx. Solution: - Differentiating both sides with respect to x. d / dx (x) + d /dx (y) = d/dx (1) or, 1 + dy/dx = 0 or, dy/dx = -1 Therefore dy / dx = -1
Learning Classical Guitar Can I Use Tabs or Should I Read Music
Learning Classical Guitar Can I Use Tabs or Should I Read Music Sign up successful Tabs have 6 lines which represent the 6 strings of the guitar. It is commonly used in notating rock, pop, folk, ragtime, bluegrass, and blues music and is mostly related to the acoustic and electric guitar. Tab is not that popular for classical guitar, even though there are some serious music pieces transcribed for classical guitar using tabs. What is Standard Musical Notation? The standard musical notation for guitar uses staffs of five horizontal parallel lines where symbols are notated to represent musical expressions. In the example below, the top line is standard musical notation, and the bottom is written in tab. Should I Learn to Read Standard Notation or Can I Use Classical Guitar Tabs? To answer the above question you should ask yourself first: Do I want to study classical guitar and start a career, or do I want to play guitar just as an amateur? Not to learn standard musical notation being a dedicated classical guitar student, who wants to pursue a career in classical guitar performance, is potentially limiting because there is so much more information in standard notation than there is in tab notation. Even though there is no such a rule that says that it is imperative that an amateur or even a professional must learn standard notation, you, as a serious classical guitar student, will want to access the existing information in order to achieve the utmost technical musical development contained in standard notation. There have been various attempts trying to incorporate all this information in a Tab notation but they are generally quite cluttered and difficult to read. Also the best existing method books used to teach classical guitar are, as of this day, written in standard notation, such as Arenas, Solo Playing Guitar, and Melodic Guitar, just to mention a few. Other limitations of contemporary tab notation vs standard musical notation are: It doesnt tell you how long to play the notes, making it hard to recognize or understand the musical piece It doesnt allow you to choose where to play in order to reach various color-tone nuances It doesnt support understanding of music theory per example: chords, keys, etc. The options are, as far as classical guitar repertoire is concerned, most limited It doesnt achieve accuracy compared to standard musical notation Why would you want to study the classical guitar without learning the literary skills of standard musical notation, which are inherent to it? It is important to study the classical guitar by traditional standard music notation! It might take some effort to learn to read music, but in the long run its worth it. Preparing for Upcoming Student Loan Payments To Defer, or Not to Defer - Private Tutoring
Preparing for Upcoming Student Loan Payments To Defer, or Not to Defer Anna L Apr 9, 2013 Our guest post today is written by Angie Picardo, a financial analyst that knows a thing or two about student loans, repayment, deferment. We hope you enjoy this article and find it helpful. You can learn more about here on her Google Plus Profile. College students with significant student loan debt who also graduate during a down economy are faced with a big challenge. Finding and keeping a job during an economic recession is hard enough for those who have long since graduated, and this challenge becomes even more difficult for new waves of college graduates who often have little job experience under their belt. Finding a job for these graduates tends to be the most important task for them, especially in order to pay back student loans that are accumulating interest. Consider the data; student loan debt has surpassed credit card debt in the United States. According to Pew Research data, a record one-in-five households owe student load debt. In 2001, 12% of American households had student load debt. This number increased to 15% in 2007, and by 2010, had reached a staggering 19%. Recent data from the New York Fed shows that in the first quarter of 2012, the under 30 age group has the most borrowers at 14 million, followed by 10.6 million for the 30-39 group, 5.7 million in the 40-49 category, 4.6 million in the 50-59 age group and the over 60 category with the least number of borrowers at 2.2 million for an overall total of 37.1 million. Many people with student loan debt who have yet to find a job are considering loan deferments to stymie their student loan payments for a short period of time while looking for a job or saving up enough to make their first debt payments. Nevertheless, deferments have their pros and cons. Students pondering whether or not they should defer should conduct solid research about deferment while finding out all of the policies and terms of deferment from their respective lenders. Deferment, sometimes called forbearance, is not for everyone, so it is important for recent grads to analyze their financial situation and determine the best route for them in terms of paying back student loans. Missing a student loan payment is never a good idea. Defaulting on a loan can cause penalties on a personâs credit score or have their loan sent to a debt management firm that can impose other, more dire penalties against the debtor. In a situation in which a recent graduate does not have savings or access to finances to begin to pay off a student loan, deferment is one method that can be used to avoid defaulting. However, many student loans have the option to defer one time only, or one time within a given time frame. If this is the case, graduates must carefully choose when to defer. This is extremely difficult to do since no one can tell the future, making it often impossible for those new to the job market to know what their employment status will be in coming years. Deferring while working at a low-paying job may be a bad idea if the job doesnât work out and the debtor finds him or herself completely unemployed the year after with no option for forbearance since it has already been used. It is therefore extremely important for all those with a student loan to assess what the lender terms and guidelines state, especially when it comes to deferment. As graduation approaches, current students should do as much homework as they possibly can as they prepare to take on their upcoming loans. Organizing all of a lenderâs information and ensuring that important terms and policies in the fine print can be found easily, especially in the event that an important question arises in the middle of a studentâs payback or deferment period. Further, students should ask lenders what they monthly payments might be, how long it would take the loan to be paid off (if minimum payments are made), and at which rate the loan will accumulate interest over time. Additionally, some people do not qualify for deferment. Lenders generally have specific criteria that debtors must meet in order to qualify for special student loan repayment programs such as deferment. Many people who find themselves outside of the criteria to receive a deferment option either wind up defaulting on their loan payments or are forced to consolidate their debts through a debt consolidation agency. It is nevertheless important to always keep an open line of communication with the lender, as many are focused on getting paid back, and are therefore more apt to work with recent graduates who might not qualify for their forbearance programs. How to file your U.S. taxes after teaching abroad or online
How to file your U.S. taxes after teaching abroad or online With tax season in full swing, many current and future teachers who work online or abroad are asking: âWhat taxes am I required to pay on my teaching income?â If youâre in that same boat, youâve come to the right place! Weâre here to answer all your tax-related questions about teaching abroad and online. Thankfully, filing taxes as a teacher doesnât have to be complicatedâ"especially if youâve kept good documentation along the way! Itâs all about having the right papers, knowing when to file them, and keeping good records of your income and work-related expenses. Itâs not a difficult process, we promise! Keep scrolling to learn how to file your U.S. taxes as an online teacher or an American ex-pat teaching aboard. After reading our tax guide, if you have additional questions, we recommend speaking to an accountant or consulting the IRS website. Filing a U.S. tax return as an online teacher If youâre an online teacher, the IRS considers you an independent contractor. As a result, you are required to pay about 15.3% in taxes on your yearly income. Throughout the year, itâs prudent to set aside 15.3% from every paycheck into savings to avoid any shocks at tax season. Unlike in-office teaching jobs in America, you may not receive a 1099 Form from your online teaching employer. (For those who donât know, your 1099 Form states your annual income.) As a result, we recommend keeping a spreadsheet of your earnings, so you arenât scrambling to add up numbers. As an independent contractor, you are required to file your taxes by April 15 every year. Possible tax deductions for online teachers While the 15.3% tax rate for independent contractors may seem high, we do have some positive news for you: online teachers often qualify for many tax deductions! Indeed, any work-related expenses that you accumulated over the tax year could qualify. These expenses include office rentals, a new computer or office equipment, your cellphone bill, and even the cost of your high-speed internet. Keep in mind, you canât write off 100% of your phone or internet costs! For instance, if you use your home Wi-Fi for work about 50% of the time, you would 50% of your Wi-Fi as a work expense on your tax filing. Filing a U.S. tax return as a teacher abroad Any American working abroad should file their U.S. tax return. However, unless youâre making over $100,000 per year, itâs unlikely that you will owe any taxes, according to theForeign Earned Income Exclusion. To qualify as a foreign worker (and benefit from the associated tax exclusions), you need to be living abroad for 330 days out of the tax year. The tax rules for American ex-pats exist for several reasons. For instance, in many cases, you may already be paying taxes to the country where youâre employed as a teacher. These paid taxes fall under theForeign Tax Credit, which protects you from double taxation where you pay taxes on income that you already paid taxes on! But even if your income falls below $100,000â"and letâs face it, it probably does!â"you should still file a completed U.S. tax return. Indeed, not filing one could result in being audited by the IRS, causing unnecessary hassle for all involved. As an American resident working abroad, if you donât wish to file on April 15, you qualify for an automatic extension until June 15. However, in cases where you require even more time, you may request an extension until October 15. Keep in mind that if you owe taxes, the interest will begin accumulating on April 15. Possible tax deductions for teachers abroad If your employers donât cover your housing as a teacher abroad, you can deduct it on your U.S. tax return. These deductions fall under theForeign Housing Exclusion and they can include rent, utilities, parking, and housing insurance. All reasonable expenses are typically deductible up to 30%. Furthermore, if you moved to teach English abroad in the current tax year, you can also declare your associated moving expenses. These could include airplane tickets, storage costs for your belongings in the U.S., and temporary lodging costs in your new country of work (prior to finding a permanent residence). To qualify, you must maintain your ESL teaching position for a minimum of 39 weeks. Sign up to Teach Away today for access to the latest teaching jobs around the world. Non-exempt taxes for teachers abroad It goes without saying that if you worked in America during the tax year, you are required to pay the associated taxes. So, collect those 1099 forms from your American employers and file your U.S. tax return accordingly! However, there are two non-exempt taxes that you might not have considered: Local property taxes: If you're a homeowner or property owner, you are required to pay the associated property taxes. Capital gains taxes: If you increase your capital by selling bonds, stocks, or other assets in America, you will be required to pay taxes on those gains. Paying local taxes as a teacher abroad Before signing your contract to teach abroad, you should ask your future employer about the tax rules for foreign workers in their country. First and foremost, you need to know whether teachers from abroad are expected to pay local taxes. When the answer to that question is âyesâ, you should immediately inquire about the countryâs tax rules, including what percentage of your paycheck will go toward taxes. As an example, if you work in South Korea, your employers will simply remove 3% from every paycheck. Itâs also vital to know your country of employmentâs yearly deadlines for tax filing. Unlike the United States, where tax season happens during the springtime, many nations file their taxes at totally different times of the year. For instance, in Costa Rica, teachers from abroad are expected to file their taxes in October. If your new employer is unable to answer your tax-related questions, look online for the official website of that countryâs revenue agency or consult with a local accountant.
Keeping Up with the World The 5 Fastest Growing Languages
Keeping Up with the World The 5 Fastest Growing Languages Keeping Up with the World: The 5 Fastest Growing Languages In early 2018, The Guardian asked, have we reached peak English?Theres no doubt that English is a widely spoken and studied language across the world. But its standing is challenged by other rapidly growing languages. As new global markets emerge or established ones expand, the importance of being multilingual cannot be overstated. Meanwhile, languages spoken by increasingly populous or diverse regions open doors for new relationships and opportunitiesâ"if you have the communication skills to take advantage. In this post, Ill walk you through five of the fastest-growing languages in the world and the benefits of learning each one. Keeping Up with the World: The 5 Fastest Growing LanguagesAccording to the language publication Fair Languages, the five fastest-growing languages in the world share one core characteristic: theyre each projected to have the most speakers by 2050 based on population and economic data. The demand for second-language speakers will arguably only increase too . For example, even as the technology industry booms and seeks to bridge language barriers with computerized translations, the CEO of one of the largest tech giants in the world still found it valuable to study Mandarin Chinese. If one of these languages sparks your interest, youll want to get fluent fast as it grows in dominance! Immersive learning (surrounding yourself with the written and spoken language) is the classic method for rapid language learning. Of course, if you donât currently live in an area where your target language is spoken, its hard to achieve. FluentU is a great way to mimic the immersion experience no matter where you areâ"it provides authentic videos like movie trailers, music videos, inspiring talks and more. Each video has interactive captions, flashcards and exercises, so you can actively build your vocabulary while absorbing the native sounds of the language. FluentU also keeps track of your learning and suggests more videos thatâll suit your level and goals.FluentU has programs for some of the useful languages that weâll cover belowâ"Mandarin Chinese, Spanish and Frenchâ"among several others. Check out all the options and start watching as soon as today with a free trial.Note: some of the languages below will be expected, others not so much. Be open minded!French: Beyond BaguettesThis one is perhaps unsurprising and already a popular choice for second-language learners around the world. But did you know that by choosing French youre choosing a language thats predicted to be spoken by 750 million people by 2050?And those people arent just French. Its a common misconception that learning another language is only relevant if you plan on visiting or moving to the country for which its named (in this case, France). However, French is growing in developing regions like sub-Saharan Africa, and as language learning often goes hand-in-hand with wanderlust, French could just be the key that opens new adventures. Why should French s growth matter to you?For the business-minded undergrad or working professional, French is a truly global language, according to The Economist, which can give your career a significant boost. Youll have a common language with people from Vietnam to Morocco to Switzerland, and youll be equipped to converse with clients and business partners from both established and emerging markets. If you want a peak into the world of French language and culture, check out some of FluentUs authentic French videosâ"like this interview with World Cup fans in the Ivory Coast.Arabic: Dont Underrate ItA hugely misunderstood culture has led to a nationally overlooked language of study. From the media to college campuses, Arabic is neglected as the important, intriguing and growing language that it is.You might not realize how widely spoken Arabic already is, with about 300 million native speakers. Its also been deemed the fastest growing language within the U.S. and even the fastest growing language o n the internet. Why should Arabics growth matter to you?Learning a language is, by extension, learning about a culture. Its impossible to learn a language to fluency without communicating with native speakers, listening to their media or reading their literature.Did you know that Middle Eastern cultures, where Arabic is widely spoken, pride themselves on their hospitality and have a history of being gracious hosts? This is just one tidbit of many to take into account when considering learning Arabic.Furthermore, because of the shortage of people in the Western world who speak Arabic, learning it can automatically make you a standout in any job market or field. (And did you know the Arab-speaking world has a combined GDP of $2.5 trillion?)All of these facts marry to create an especially ripe stomping ground for multilingual business people, journalists and politiciansâ"these are industries thatll be key in the growth of Arabic in the coming years.Spanish: Trusty and Increasingly ImportantTime tested and true, this is one language whose popularity wont be going anywhere anytime soon, and for good reason. There are more than 400 million speakers of Spanish, and its relevance in the business world only continues to grow with countries like Costa Rica establishing themselves as top vacation and retirement spots for U.S. citizens. The language spans two continents, the North, Central and South Americas, and the industries and fields that a Spanish-speaker can go into or further their career in are innumerable. Why should Spanishs growth matter to you?As hinted above, Spanish is a way to open new doors in a stagnant career! Many employers have recognized the usefulness and importance of Spanish, particularly in global business and consulting markets. The importance and value of an American employee who can fluently navigate English and Spanish cannot be understated, and the potential for international travel may increase with acquisition of the Spanish language.F or example, those in the education or medical fields will find a need for their skillsets overseas!Spanish is another language on the FluentU program, and in fact you can start to learn about the languages international growth with this Spanish news broadcast covering its prominence in the U.S.Mandarin Chinese: Worth the WorkLike Arabic, Mandarin Chinese has a reputation for being incredibly difficult to learn, which can be intimidating to many second-language learners. However, the benefits far outweigh the costs and if the cost is simply the time and effort to acquire a new understanding of culture and language, isnt that really a win-win?What ups the intimidation factor for Mandarin is the languages use of pictograms, rather than phonetic writing. But did you know that the language is actually much simpler grammatically than what English speakers are used to in their own language? For example, theres no verb conjugation for different tenses. Why should Mandarins growth matter to you?In 2015, China overtook the U.S. as the worlds largest economy. While that may freak some people out, language learners will recognize this as an opportunity to further both their personal and professional growth in one fell swoop. The enormous markets with which China enters the global economy span industries such as trade, international finance and international consulting, to name a few. This video will get you acquainted with some basic Mandarin business etiquette, among the many other cultural and entertainment videos on FluentUs Chinese program.Hindi-Urdu: A Giant of the Past and FutureBy 2030, India is expected to overtake China as the worlds most populous country. Hindi and Urdu are two of the countrys major languages and have been gaining momentum as languages to learn because of Indias emerging international presence in the literary, art and cinematic scenes, among others. Why should Hindi-Urdus growth matter to you?If youre a lover of history, art or culture, Hindi- Urdu should be at the top of your list.India has a turbulent history of colonialism and the impact of British rule on the countrys psyche will be evident to second-language learners who pursue further learning in the countrys native languages. Youll gain a perspective on the countrys history thats often barely covered or left out of Western curricula.Indias art and traditions also hold increasing sway over the Western culture, as this article from New Geography indicates. If youre passionate about anything from yoga to Bollywood films, Hindi-Urdu is a good option. And of course, as with the other languages on this list, Indias prominence as a world power makes it an attractive option for language-learners who are interested in joining growing business markets at the front of the line.Whichever language you choose to learn (or for a really zany idea, try learning multiple languages at once!), taking the initiative to learn a second language is a wonderful opportunity to undertake a cultural study as well.Shared language is an incredible bonding agent between people, which is especially relevant to remember in a world as closely linked as ours is today. In addition, taking the time to educate yourself on the fastest-growing languages in the world will help you take advantage of unique professional opportunities. And One More ThingFluentU is growing fast right along with the fastest growing languages.
